We’re shining the spotlight on one of our members each month!
This month we caught up with Sue Shearer, Operations Manager at the Armed Forces Headquarters CIC.
What do you do?
I am the Operations Manager at the Armed Forces Headquarters CIC here in Wigan.
How long have you been doing it?
I have been in post for just over 3 years, it has gone so quickly!
What kind of projects are you working on right now?
Where do I start? We have just started a mentoring programme matching mentors with veteran mentees. We have a gambling awareness programme, and also a trauma-informed project addressing childhood and service-related traumas.
We are in the process of becoming a registered social landlord – we have a house of multi-occupancy with 6 bedrooms for the veterans who are homeless.
We have all of the activities on a day-to-day basis, plus the peer support groups and counselling sessions. So we are really busy at the HQ. Of course, we also have the day-to-day dramas to deal with.
What is your favourite part of your job?
My favourite part of my job is when I have helped someone who is absolutely at rock bottom and can not see any light at the end of the tunnel. To see them flourish with the support and interventions we put in place here and for them to say that without the HQ they would not be here, that is why we come to work.
What do you enjoy doing outside of your job?
I enjoy watching the TV with a nice cold glass of white wine or a gin, and also spending time with my grandson (not both at the same time!).
Why do you attend Fubhub?
I love coming to Fubhub. I remember when it first started with only a few members and I have watched it grow. It is wonderful spending time with like-minded, remarkable women who have such fantastic personalities and it is always entertaining in one way or another. It should be called FABHUB!!!
